SPIDERFLOWER: CONTEMPORARY EARTH DANCE

Spiderflower: Contemporary Earth Dance works as a dynamic dance movement practice concerned with aligning the relationship between body and earth through the expressive arts.

Balancing clear structures and techniques with the spontaneous flow of improvisation, the dancer is free to respond to internal impulse, yet is able to translate movement with startling clarity.

Earth work and wilderness skills combine with the dance as an essential element, where we literally have hands-on, feet-on contact with the land. In this way, earth and body connect and this, in turn, enables the dancer to contact deeper levels of expression.

In a cyclical relationship, the connective and regenerative relationship between human being and natural world strengthen over time.  We then start to experience a conversation. Emergent dialogue begins to take shape and form.

Putting this in motion is the most natural thing in the world: it is innate. The body knows this language and is able to translate the deep intelligence held in earth.  The body is also a natural storyteller and will, in time, unfold ancient and archaic stanzas of movement that speak a language so nearly forgotten.

Spiderflower offers classes, residentials and courses in the UK and overseas and attracts participants from all walks of life.  This is probably one of the most valuable aspects of the work, as this brings incredible diversity to the work space and keeps the work real at a grassroots level.
