TONGUES IN THE FLOWERING TREE

When body plays amongst the roots,

What language do we speak?

Bringing together an international collective of actors, musicians and artists, Tongues in the Flowering Tree is rooted in the story of the ancient and enduring relationship between the drum, the human and the earth.

This ongoing arts project springs from research undertaken through Spiderflower's yearly The Flower Drum: Discovering the Deliciousness of the Ancient Dancing Soul, based at Borntorpet Shambala Gatherings, SkinnskattebergSweden.

Our story is woven from a pan-cultural perspective from of real-life journeys undertaken through a personal quest to find the drum that sits at the root of their ancestral tree.

There is no fiction here.  Each strand of story brought to the project is rooted in real time, building layer upon layer, working in slow time as with fine art, to create a unique embodiment of the lost and archaic language discovered through this multi-cultural voyage into rhythm.

Tongues in the Flowering Tree journeys the audience into a sensate world. Performance, made rich and diverse through a collaborative synergy of dance movement theatre and percussive sculpture, offers an entirely immersive experience into the world of the drum.

Dedicated to melting the bounds of separation

through the universal language of rhythm,

this is a journey rooted within the

common-unity of humanity,

yet, at the same time,

celebrates the colourful and unending

diversity of the whole.

Tongues in the Flowering Tree offers a voice

that is vital for the times we live in today.

Tongues in the Flowering Tree is currently in early stages of production.
