MARIA LÉ MON

Dancer / Researcher / Contributor

My name is Maria.

I was born in Stockholm, Sweden and have lived  there all my life.  I share that with some of my ancestors, who have been living in Stockholm far back in time.  Other parts of my ancestery go back to Götland, to 1600 century as we are sure of, and small villages in southern Sweden, Eslöv and Edsbruk.

As a teenager I started to dance. I continued at high school, learning different dance forms, as ballet, contemporary dance, jazz and creative dance.

I have been dancing with Spiderflower since 2014, participating in The Flower Drum, Day Dances and have completed the foundation course Being Human in 2016.

Right now, I participate in the Ongoing Group, a year cycle with Rowan, exploring the art of theatre and getting to look closer on the cycle of the year.

There's a lot of freedom in dancing, a poetic language can express what words can't describe, and a blessing to get closer to the body I live in.

Theatre is for me very fun to explore, as it gives me a chance to try out what we humans are, in a very physical way.

In 2015 I completed a term course in making documentery movies, at Sundbybergs Folkhögskola, as movies are a great tool for storytelling.

I have a interest in storys, the new one, and the really old. For me the old storys give a very rich perspective, which do not give clear answers, but create more questions about the world we live in.

I am also studying cultural-anthropology in Uppsala University, a discipline thats study humans, as the cultural beings we all are.
